01 / Project overview

A full clinical millwork package is demanding on its own — reception and check-in, exam-room casework with integrated sinks, nurse stations, and corridor casework all have to be durable, cleanable, and precisely fitted. On this project, the added complexity was distance: Pio detailed, fabricated, and finished the entire package in our Bensenville facility, then shipped it to Florida for installation.

Project scope

The work was a complete medical office casework package:

  • Reception and check-in millwork
  • Exam-room casework with integrated sinks
  • Nurse stations and corridor casework

Every piece was built to AWI Custom Grade — the standard for commercial casework where fit, finish, and everyday durability all matter.

The challenge: building for an out-of-state install

Out-of-state work changes how you build. With the shop in the Chicago area and the site in Florida, there was no quick trip back for a re-cut or a field adjustment. The package had to be right the first time — and it had to arrive in a form the install crew could set in order.

How Pio approached it

Verify every dimension up front

Before fabrication, field dimensions were verified so the casework would fit the built conditions on arrival — especially important for exam-room runs with integrated sinks, where the casework and the plumbing rough-in have to line up.

Fabricate, finish, and crate in install sequence

The complete package was fabricated and finished in-house, then crated in the order it would be installed. That sequencing let the on-site crew unload and set each area — reception, exam rooms, nurse and corridor stations — without sorting through the shipment or waiting on a missing piece.

Materials and finishes

The casework was built in plastic laminate with solid surface — a pairing well suited to healthcare millwork. Both are durable and non-porous, standing up to the constant clean-down and heavy daily use a clinical environment demands.

The outcome

Reception, exam-room casework with integrated sinks, and nurse and corridor stations arrived ready to set and went in on schedule — a complete medical office casework package delivered across state lines with no shop rework. It’s a clear example of how in-house shop drawings, fabrication, and finishing let us take on projects well beyond the Chicago area with confidence.
