Pio built the architectural millwork for a full-floor tenant suite high in a downtown Chicago office tower. The centerpiece is the reception desk: wood veneer wrapped around a round structural column, with a quartz transaction top set above a solid stone counter. Behind it, a floor-to-ceiling fluted wall in paint-grade MDF, built and finished by Pio, gives the lobby its edge.
The rest of the floor carries the same vocabulary. The pantry and café pair walnut-tone cabinetry with a navy quartz-topped island, a quartz backsplash, and an open display niche. A coffee bar sets floating walnut shelves against a blue glazed herringbone tile wall over a quartz counter. An open slatted shelving unit works as a pass-through between spaces, and the private offices and conference rooms are fit out in matching commercial casework. Everything was built to AWI Custom Grade and coordinated with the other trades on an occupied downtown floor.
Pio's Role
Shop drawings, field measuring, material coordination, fabrication, finishing, delivery, and installation.
Challenge
The reception desk had to wrap a round structural column in seamless wood veneer while carrying a stone transaction top, all held plumb and tight on a live high-rise floor.
Result
A coordinated package of reception, pantry, café, and office casework that reads as one continuous material story across the whole floor.
